The Sidney Collier Technical College closed in August 2005 after suffering severe damage caused by Hurricane Katrina. The site in eastern New Orleans subsequently became part of Delgado Community College.
On Friday, April 26, 2013, Gov. Bobby Jindal, President of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System Joe May, Chancellor of Delgado Community College Monty Sullivan and others broke ground on the new Sidney Collier Site in eastern New Orleans. Once rebuilt, it will be one of eight Delgado Community College locations, and will be known as the Sidney Collier Site.
In Fall 2014, the Sidney Collier Site began offering the following programs: Associate of Arts Transfer Degree; Associate of General Studies; Associate of Science Transfer Degree; Technical Diplomas in (Air-Conditioning) Master HVAC/R, Barber-Styling, Cosmetology, and Practical Nursing; Certificates of Technical Studies in (Air-Conditioning) Master HVAC/R, Carpentry, Electrician: Commercial, Electrician: Residential, Electrician: Small Industrial, and General Studies; and a variety of non-credit courses.
The rebuilding is financed by about $12 million provided by the State of Louisiana and $9 million through FEMA, and construction is taking place in two stages. The first stage, which began in May 2013, used the state’s $12 million to build 36,000 square feet of space for classrooms and offices, and was completed in Summer of 2014. The second phase is financed by FEMA and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2015. Phase 2 construction began in June 2014, will include a library, student government offices, workshops, laboratories, a student lounge, answer center, and testing and tutoring centers. Phase 2 will also feature our signature Art-of-Construction programs, which include Architectural/Design Construction Technology, Civil and Construction Applied Engineering Technology, Computer Aided Design and Drafting, and Interior Design.. The new site will has approximately 100,000 square feet of landscaped grounds and parking. Students returned to the site in the fall of 2014.
