Our College and Career Readiness (CCR) classes are designed to help students prepare to earn a high school equivalency diploma (HiSET, formerly the GED), and transition to various college and career pathways.
What are CCR classes like?
All classes in the Adult Education Program are structured and follow a specific curriculum designed to help any student advance and prepare for the high school equivalency exam. After you complete a short placement test, which is designed to determine your academic level in Reading, Language, and Math, our staff members will help you understand your test scores and determine which courses will work for you. You will choose the courses that best fit your needs and interests. Typically, students come to class for 4-8 hours per week, and there are opportunities to attend study halls (to work one-to-one with a tutor) and free computer classes as well!
When are classes available?
Classes are offered in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings on Mondays/Wednesdays and Tuesdays/Thursdays. Classes are available during the following times:
Most students take between 4-8 hours of classes per week. Program staff will work with each student to develop a class schedule that is convenient and meets your academic goals.
Where are classes located?
ABE classes are offered at the following campuses:
How long does the program last?
Well, that depends on each student (what level you are at and how hard you work)! Each academic session includes eight weeks of instruction, with an assessment after attaining 40 hours of class time that will allow students to measure progress and assess readiness for the HiSET. If a student maintains good attendance during their first session, they will receive a new class schedule and begin a new eight-week instructional period the following week. Students that demonstrate readiness will be given a Practice HiSET Exam. Students that pass the Practice Exam will be nominated and registered for the HiSET.
Since the program is always free, students are welcomed and encouraged to stay in the program and continue studying for as long as needed until they are ready to take the test.
