Resource Centers

Please note: The City Park Writing Center has been moved temporarily. Beginning Monday, November 19, The Writing Center in CP01, 216W will be closed for repairs through the end of the fall Semester, but tutoring and computer services will still be offered at the regular times. 

Tutoring Services will be available in City Park, Building 1, 221W on Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Computer Services will be available in 221W in the Reading Lab, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Access to printing will require student ID. Additional computer lab access is available in CP01, 219W but printing is limited to essays only!

Purpose and Services

Delgado’s Reading Lab, located at the City Park Campus, benefits students in developmental programs and provides students with services that enhance their college reading skills. Staff members are available during lab hours to assist students at no extra cost. Students are invited to use the Reading Lab while developing proficiency in all reading areas.

Tutoring services are available on a walk-in, appointment, or referral basis. Tutors help students by focusing on these specific reading skills:

  • comprehension
  • main ideas
  • inferences
  • transitions
  • fact and opinion
  • argument
  • integrating reading and writing
  • vocabulary in context
  • supporting details
  • patterns of organization
  • summarizing and outlining
  • vocabulary development
  • reading rate

The lab’s computers are fully equipped with programs that aid in building comprehension, vocabulary, and reading skills, including:

  • Ultimate Speed Reader
  • Ten Steps Reading Skills/Townsend Press
  • English Skills
  • Vocabulary Skills/Townsend Press
  • Spelling Skills
  • Decoding Skills

The Internet is available to explore articles, college information, and helpful websites. The Reading Lab also houses a variety of paperback books that students can check out free with a valid Delgado ID.

Purpose and Services

Located at Delgado’s City Park Campus, the Writing Center’s services and resources are available on a walk-in basis to Delgado students working on writing assignments. Services include tutoring and computer access.

The Writing Center provides specialized tutoring and computer services for students enrolled in English Composition and any other writing-related courses. Grammar handouts and other resources, including computer software and web-based materials, are available in the Writing Center to assist students in improving their English grammar skills. Tutors in the Writing Center assist students in the following areas:

  • Pre-writing to generate and develop ideas
  • Focusing and narrowing topics
  • Formulating thesis statements
  • Organizing ideas
  • Paragraphing
  • Providing transitions
  • Developing proofreading skills
  • Organizing research
  • Writing research papers

Computer lab services are available for students working on writing assignments and research projects. Writing Center Computer Lab Services include the following:

  • Assistance using Microsoft Word
  • Internet access for writing-related research
  • Assistance accessing Canvas and Delgado email
