HEAD MEN'S BASKETBALL COACH


Coach Tommy Smith is now in his twenty-ninth year of involvement with the Delgado Community College Athletic Department. As Athletic Director, he oversees the day to day operations of Dolphin Athletics. Smith also serves as the Dolphins’ Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

Smith is a 1971 graduate of BrotherMartinHigh School, where he was a member of the Crusaders' back-to-back basketball state championship teams in 1970 and 1971. He graduated from SoutheasternLouisianaUniversity in 1975 and earned his Masters in Education in 1986 from the University of New Orleans.

Smith signed on with Delgado Athletics as an Assistant Baseball Coach under Coach "Rags" Scheuermann and also served as an Assistant Basketball coach. Smith took over the reigns as Athletic Director in 1986 following Rags’ retirement from the A.D. post.
Prior to the 1990 season, Smith was named Delgado’s Head Men's Basketball Coach. His teams have earned numerous regional and conference titles through the years, including seven regional tourney appearances. The Men’s Basketball teams have also claimed three Miss-Lou Conference Championships under Smith. Coach Smith also served as the NJCAA Assistant Men's Regional Director (Region XXIII) from 1996-2008. Today, Smith is one of the longest tenured coaches in the NJCAA Region XXIII Conference.
Smith has one son, Anthony Chritian and a daughter, Kristy Lynn Reimonenq. He is married to the former Alicia Skinner and resides in New Orleans.
