Delgado's Associate of Applied Science Degree in Motor Vehicle Technology
What is ASSET?
The ASSET program is a partnership between Ford Motor Company and Delgado Community College designed to train technicians to deal with the majority of automotive repairs. The program takes two years to complete and a finishing student will receive a two year associate degree in addition to ninety percent of their Ford certifications. Students in the ASSET program must have sponsorship at a Ford, Lincoln, or Mazda dealership to participate in the program.
ASSET Curriculum.

ASSET students will receive both Ford classroom and web based class credit in the following areas:
- NVH
- ENGINE PERFORMANCE
- ENGINE REPAIR
- STEERING AND SUSPENSION
- ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONC SYSTEMS
- CLIMATE CONTROL
- MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND DRIVELINE
- AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS
- BRAKES AND ABS SYSTEMS
- DIESEL
- GENERAL EDUCATION CLASSES
Cooperative Education.
The student will receive college credit while working in his sponsoring Ford dealership. To reinforce what the student has learned in school, the student will have a mentor at his sponsoring dealer that can help guide him in making repairs and track his development. This is one of the most important differences in our program from some of the other automotive programs out there. The student recieves real world experience as well as a paycheck. ASSET students will receive over 70 Ford factory certifications as well as two years of real work experience! This makes you extremely valuable to a Ford Dealership.
Cost.
Total estimated cost for tuition, books and fees is approximately $1,200 a semester for five semesters. $6000 compaired to over $30,000 some other automotive programs are charging is a fantastic deal, plus this is a real degree that can be tranferred to a four year college.
Financial Assistance.
All students are encouraged to apply for Financial Aid at Delgado Community College during the initial application process. Students may apply for financial assistance at www.fasfa.ed.gov. Delgado Community College's school code is 004626. Delgado Community College is a Louisiana TOPS eligible school.
Earn while you learn.
Students will make money while working at the dealership. This will help to offset some of the expenses of school and books, as well as give you some extra spending money.
Housing.
Arrangements have been made with a local university to provide housing and meals for out-of-town students.

Conclusion.
I think that Ford ASSET is the best answer for anyone hoping to make a career in this field and I think Delgado is an excellent place to get that training. I am not, however, impartial. If another school seems to offer promise for you I suggest that you visit any dealership in your hometown and find a graduate of that school and ask them if the training was worth the expense. The answer will be very educational. We would love to have you come visit our campus and to answer any questions that you might have about our program. Hope to hear from you soon!
