Associate Degree in Nursing Program-RN

  1. At what times are classes offered at Charity School of Nursing?

Flexible scheduling of lecture classes and clinical hours is offered with morning, afternoon and evening sections available.

2. Where can I find out about the TEAS Exam?

3. How will I know if my courses from another university / college will be 
    accepted at Charity School of Nursing (CSN)?
During the admissions evaluation process a determination of the transferability of each course is made.  Course substitutions may be made for equivalent work taken at accredited universities / colleges if a grade of “C” or better has been earned.  If a course was taken 10 or more years prior to application, CSN will submit a request for evaluation to the DCC division in which that course would be offered (Liberal Arts, Science & Math, etc.).  Students accepted into the program are provided a copy of the evaluation of the transcripts indicating the courses for which credit has been awarded at the Charity orientation.

4. How soon can my transcripts be evaluated?
Applicant transcripts are usually evaluated no later than 6 months after the completed application package is received (CSN application, TEAS scores, and all official transcripts) at Charity School of Nursing.  Only completed grades are calculated into application evaluation.

5. Should I get transcripts from all other schools I have attended?
Yes, you must submit all official transcripts from all colleges attended except for Delgado Community College.

6. Which Fine Arts and Humanities courses are approved?
Refer to the DCC catalog for a list of courses.  All Fine Arts and Humanities courses on the General Education Requirements list are acceptable.

7. Will I be notified of receipt after I submit my application package?
Applicants are notified in writing of folder status within 60 days.

8. When will I know if I’ve been accepted?
Applicants with completed application packages will be considered by the Admissions Committee during the Fall semester for the next available Fall class and will be notified in writing of the committee’s decision no later than the end of December.  Applicants who are considered by the Admissions Committee during a Spring semester for the next available Spring class will be notified in writing at the end of June.

9. Do I need to be currently enrolled in Delgado to be accepted at Charity School of Nursing?
Yes. In order to be processed through the Charity School of Nursing database, you must have filled out a Delgado Community College application and paid the application fees.  However, you are not required to be currently registered in courses prior to acceptance at Charity School of Nursing.

10.  Is it acceptable not to be enrolled for a semester while waiting to begin my program at Charity School of Nursing?
Yes.  However, we encourage you to complete the prerequisites, the general education courses, and required related courses for the nursing program.

 11. I attend Delgado; do I need to send you a Delgado transcript?
No. Your DCC transcript will be in the CSN database.

12. I finished all my pre-requisites, what else can I take that will help me?
Courses from the General Education Courses (Fine Arts and Humanities) and the Required Related Courses lists that apply to the nursing program will enhance your academic profile when being evaluated for admission.

13. When do I begin my background and fingerprint checks?
You will receive a packet after you have been accepted.

14. I didn’t get into the Charity School of Nursing this time, do I need to reapply?
Applicants notified in writing that they were not accepted must submit in writing (email acceptable) a request to be re-evaluated to the Coordinator of Admissions indicating the class for which they wish to be considered.

15. I’m thinking that I might want to be trained to be an ICU or as a  pediatric nurse.  What should I do when I’m at Charity School of Nursing to get into a specialized  field?
Charity School of Nursing graduates Registered Nurses (RN) prepared to provide caring and competent nursing in entry level positions to meet the healthcare needs of a diverse community.  Investigate the various hospitals and institutions in which you would like to be employed to discover if they provide specialized training in the particular discipline where your interest lies.
16. What medical requirements do I need?
Evidence of the following is due prior to enrollment in the first nursing course:

  • Physical exam (dated within 6 months of enrollment)
  • Hepatitis B vaccine. (This is a series of 3 injections given over a 6 month period).
  • Meningitis vaccine
  • MMR vaccine and /or titer.
  • Varicella vaccine and/or titer.
  • Tetanus and Diphtheria boosters.
  • VDRL test.
  • PPD test for tuberculosis or results of a chest  x-ray.  (TB test should be completed each year enrolled in school).

Upon acceptance, the applicant will be mailed appropriate health forms with deadlines for submission.  A student may be denied enrollment if the health requirements are not fulfilled and documented by the deadline.  Additionally, certain diseases must be self-reported to the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN).

17. I am in Math 095 now but will take Math 118 next semester. Can I submit my application now?
A student must be able eligible to take Math 118 in order to apply to the nursing school.
18. Can I work and go to nursing school?
It is very difficult to work and attend nursing school because of the amount of studying that is required. However, we have students that have professional jobs as policemen, Emergency Medical Technicians,  counselors and funeral directors to name a few;  so it can be done.

19. I notices you no longer have an evening division. Will I be guaranteed afternoon classes if I need late afternoon classes?
We now offer flexible scheduling which allows you to register of either morning or late afternoon course. However, we can not guarantee you will always get the course you want. There may be time that you must take the courses that are being offered.

20.  How much does it cost?
 

Approximate Cost  
First Semester $2000.00 including books and uniforms
Second Semester $1500.00 including books
Third Semester $1900.00 including books
Fourth Semester $2700.00 including books
