CLINICAL SKILLS PORTFOLIO
FOR STUDENTS
This is a student generated guide which can assist you in monitoring and tracking your clinical skills from course to course. It can not be used with potential employers as a documented record of your competence.
For each skill there is a space to document satisfactory performance in the lab or clinical (nex) with the number of times a particular skill was completed.
Clinical skills are categorized as desired or required.
Required: Skills requiring a return demonstration.
Desired: Skills not requiring a return demonstration but may be performed under supervision.
Directions:
1. You are responsible for recording your progress and maintaining the portfolio.
2. The portfolio should be presented at the beginning of each rotation to share your experience with the new instructor.
3. It is recommended that you review your portfolio periodically during each clinical
4. The Portfolio should be presented at the end of each clinical rotation during the clinical evaluation conference to review and document progress.
5. If you lose your portfolio, the school can not provide a replacement. All previous documentation will be lost. However, we can provide a blank copy which is posted on each course’s blackboard site which can be printed.
Course Objective: In addition to the clinical skills, each of the following courses require that
“students must demonstrate professional behavior by adhering to ethical, legal,
and regulatory standards when providing nursing care to clients.” Competent
nursing care includes students demonstrate the ability to organize care.
