FAQ's What is a Dialysis Technician? Dialysis technicians are trained to operate medical equipment that helps cleanse the blood of patients who have kidney problems. The technician must monitor the patient undergoing treatment and must also ensure the machinery is in good working condition. What is the Dialysis course like at Delgado? The Delgado Dialysis Technician Course is a letter of completion course which consists of 14 credit hours of combined didactic and clinical education. The didactic component of the course will be taught during the evening hours. The clinical practicum may include both day and evening hours. Students who successfully complete the course will be eligible to take the hemodialysis exam for technicians given by the Board of Nephrology Examiners œ Nursing and Technology (BONENT). The student will be taught to maintain a dialysis machine, methods of patient care, and safety procedures to protect themselves and patients from infection and disease. How do you apply for admission to the Dialysis Technician Course? Delgado Community College is an open admissions college; however acceptance into the Dialysis Technician course is by selection. The Admissions Committee for the Dialysis Technician Course reviews and evaluates each application on an impartial basis. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the course. Persons accepted into the Dialysis Technician Course will be required to meet the technical standards of the Dialysis Technician profession which are available for review in the Allied Health Admission Office. When should you apply for admission to the Dialysis Technician Program? Students wishing to apply for admission to the Dialysis Technician Course must submit a completed Dialysis Technician Course application to the Division of Allied Health NO LATER THAN JUNE 1 FOR THE FALL CLASS.
