Careers

Although medical coders are employed primarily in the medical record/health information department of hospitals, there are increasing opportunities with other health care facilities, such as physician offices, home health care agencies, health maintenance organizations, outpatient clinics (medical, surgical, psychiatric), hospice facilities, nursing homes, and insurance companies.

Matriculation into the Associate of Applied Science Degree Health Information Technology program or Baccalaureate Degree in Health Information Management at the participating consortium colleges is encouraged and offers the health professional the competitiveness to enter into the upper levels of management within this necessary health field.
