Nuclear Medicine Technology
About the Program
The Delgado Community College program in Nuclear Medicine is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT). Upon successful completion, students will be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Nuclear Medicine and/or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board Exam.
Nuclear Medicine is the medical specialty that utilizes the nuclear properties of radioactive and stable nuclides to make diagnostic evaluations of the anatomic or physiologic conditions of the body and to provide therapy with unsealed radioactive sources. The skills of the nuclear medicine technologist complement those of the nuclear physician and of other professionals in the field.
The Program begins each year in August and extends through the summer semester ending in July. The deadline for receipt of completed applications, transcripts, and letters of recommendation is May 15th. All applications will be reviewed and evaluated by the Nuclear Medicine Faculty Admissions Committee. Those candidates who are not accepted will be advised accordingly by letter.
The Admissions Committee for the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program reviews and evaluates each application on an impartial basis. The most qualified applicants with the greatest potential for contributing to the profession are selected. MEETING THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION INTO THE PROGRAM. The ideal applicant will be the graduate of an Allied Health program who has completed ALL of the listed prerequisites. Applicants who have completed the 60 credit hour requirement having all of the prerequisites will be given consideration.
Delgado Community College assures equal opportunity for all qualified persons without regard to race, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicap, marital status, or veteran's status in the admission to, participation in, or employment in the programs and activities of the College.
