Polysomnographic Tech Program


The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) Program in Polysomnographic Technology at Delgado trains students to use information technology equipment and direct observation of clients in sleep laboratories to document diagnostic data to treat sleep disorders.

The Polysomnographic Technology Program at Delgado Community College will be a limited enrollment Associate of Applied Science program. Students are expected to possess the following prerequisite competencies prior to entry in the program; eligibility for college English and Mathematics; Computer Literacy; Medical Terminology; Basic Cardiac Life Support; and General Biology.

 What is the PSOM Program like at Delgado?

The PSOM Program includes prerequisites and integrated general education, required related courses and the professional courses. The PSOM component begins in August of each year consists of combined didactic and clinical education.

How do you apply for admission to the PSOM Program?

Delgado Community College is an open admissions college; however acceptance into the PSOM Program is by selection. The Admissions Committee for the PSOM Program reviews and evaluates each application on an impartial basis. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program. Students wishing to apply for admission to the PSOM Program must submit a completed PSOM application to the Division of Allied Health NO LATER THAN JULY 10.

Persons accepted into the PSOM Program will be required to meet the technical standards of the PSOM profession which will be available for review in the Allied Admissions Office.

When should you apply for admission to the PSOM Program?

Students are eligible for admission to the Polysomnographic Technology Program who:

1.         Provide evidence of a high school diploma or equivalent.

2.         Successfully complete all prerequisite courses. The prerequisite courses for the Associate of Applied Science Degree are BIOL 251 and 253 A&P Lecture/Lab); MATH 118 (Algebra ); and ENGL 101 (English Composition I).

 3.         Possess a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale in all college courses.

 NOTE: Science courses over 10 years old may require repetition. Check with the Allied Health Admissions Advisor.
