What is Radiation Therapy?Radiation therapy is a specialty within the scope of the radiologic sciences and the field of oncology that utilizes high energy x-ray and gamma radiations to treat malignant and benign disease processes. 
What is a Radiation Therapist?
The radiation therapist is that member of the oncology healthcare team that delivers a prescribed dose of radiation to patients with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses.
What is the program like at Delgado?
The Delgado Radiation Therapy Technology Program provides students with formal and practical education in both the classroom and clinical settings.  Students attend classes either at the Delgado City Park Campus or at one of our affiliate Cancer Centers.  Student assignments for their Clinical Practicum component are rotated through the affiliate sites throughout the course of the Program; this provides the student with broad exposure to various types of equipment in unique practice settings.

How do you apply for admission to the program?
Delgado Community College is an open admissions college; however acceptance into the Program is by selection.  The Admissions Committee for the Program reviews and evaluates each application on an impartial basis.  Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the Program.  Students wishing to apply for admission must submit a completed application to the Division of Allied Health Sciences by the deadline set by the Division Admissions Department.
Students accepted into the Program will be required to meet the technical standards of the Radiation Therapy Technology profession which are available for review in the Allied Health Admissions Office.

When should you apply for admission to the program?
The Allied Health Admissions office can provide you with information on when the next class of students will be starting. To be eligible to apply for admission to the Program students must:
Be a graduate of a 2 year accredited allied health program such as radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, occupational therapy, medical technology, nursing, etc. OR have at least 60 credit hours of post secondary education.  NOTE:  In addition to these courses all applicants must have completed the prerequisite courses listed on the back of this page.
