Delgado Community College is licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Barber Examiners to provide students with both theory and practical skills necessary to work efficiently in the industry of barber-styling. This competency base, 1500 clock hour program includes classroom instruction and practical/lab experience. Practical skills are developed through experience in an on-site salon which is equipped and managed according to industry standards by the students with instructor supervision. Upon completion of this program, students are eligible to take the LA State Board of Barber Examiners licensure exam.
ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM
The Barbering program is a limited admissions program. Only 22 students are accepted each Fall and Spring semester. No new students are accepted during the Summer semester. In addition to meeting all Delgado Community College admission requirements, students must also meet the Louisiana State Board of Barber Examiners admission requirements. Before enrolling into any barbering courses, students must be issued a student license from the LA State Board of Barber Examiners. In order for us to obtain your student license, you must submit the following items to Ms. Rhonda Salters at the West Jefferson Technical Site:
1. LA State Board of Barber Examiners student application
2. Birth certificate or driver’s license*
3. Social security card*
4. Two photographs measuring approximately 2” x 2”
5. $90 money order
