The Cosmetology Teacher Training program is a limited admissions program. Only 15 students are accepted each Spring semester. The program is designed to provide licensed cosmetologists the instruction and teaching experiences necessary to become a cosmetology instructor. The practical experience received in this program will help you to develop teaching skills, prepare coursework, deliver lessons, and evaluate students. Students are asked to have at least one year of experience as a cosmetologist before applying to the Cosmetology Teacher Training program. Upon completion of this program, which is 500 clock hours, students are eligible to take the LA State Board of Cosmetology’s Instructor’s Practical Exam for licensure.
ADMISSION TO THE PROGRAM
In addition to meeting all Delgado Community College admission requirements, students must also meet the Louisiana State Board of Cosmetology admission requirements. Before enrolling into any cosmetology courses, students must be issued a student license from the LA State Board of Cosmetology. In order for us to obtain your student license, you must submit the following items to Ms. Rhonda Salters at the West Jefferson Technical Site:
1. LA State Board of Cosmetology student application (click here to download)
2. Birth certificate or driver’s license*
3. Social security card*
4. Two photographs measuring approximately 2” x 2”
5. $10 money order
6. Proof of completion of education equal to the 10th grade*
*Please note that you must bring in the original documents and the staff here will make a copy. We must be able to verify to the Board that we have seen the original documents.*

Cosmetology schools and hair product retail companies all across the country are in need of qualified instructors.
The average salary for a cosmetology instructor in Louisiana is $17.30 per hour (www.indeed.com, 2012).
