Tips for Planning Your Future

First Semester

• Register with Career Services.
• Use Career Cruising career assessment.
• Make an appointment with a Career Advisor.
• Get involved.  Join a student organization on campus.
• Keep good grades.  Attend skill building seminars hosted by The Office of Advising and Testing.
• Develop a resume.
• Attend an on-campus Job Fair.

Second Semester

• Stay involved.  Seek leadership roles in campus organizations.
• Conduct an informational interview and job shadow.  Confirm your decision for your major.
• Attend seminars hosted by The Office of Advising and Testing.
• Do a mock interview.  Make an appointment with a Career Advisor.
• Get summer work experience.  Make an appointment with the Job Placement Advisor for assistance.
• Refine your resume.  See the Career Advisor for tips.
• Meet with the Transfer Advisor if you intend to pursue a Bachelor's Degree.
• Keep up good grades.  Employers are looking for hard-working, dedicated employees.

Third Semester

• Stay involved.  Seek leadership roles in campus organizations.
• Update your resume.  Include campus/summer employment and involvement in student organizations.
• Keep up the good work in the classroom. 
• Network with faculty, advisors, neighbors, friends, and family.  Many jobs are found through networking.
• Attend an on-campus Job Fair.

Fourth Semester

• Stay involved.  Skills and networking learned while participating in student organizations are valuable in the job market.
• Attend seminars hosted by The Office of Advising and Testing.
• Do a mock interview.  Make an appointment with a Career Advisor.
• Network, network, network.  Many jobs are found through networking.
• Participate in an internship.
• Refine your resume.
• Create and refine cover letter.  Make an appointment with a Career Advisor.
• Apply for jobs.  See the Job Placement Advisor for current employment listings.
• Keep up good grades.
