Understanding Quality Point Deficits

If you have been suspended you have what is known as a quality point deficit.  This means that because of your grades you have fewer quality points than you should have.  The goal from here going forward will be to get your overall GPA up to a 2.0.  The first step is to calculate your current quality point deficit.

Look at the bottom of the last page of your transcript for the column QHRS (quality hours) and record the total on the DCC Adj Cum line:

Example:
AHRS             EHRS             QHRS             QPTS              GPA

Current                      6                   0                      6                   0                  0.00
DCC Adj Cum            45                  9                     27                  21                 .777

We are going to multiply this number by 2.  This will give you the number of quality points you would have if your GPA were a 2.0 (remember a C gives you two points for every hour and a 2.0 is a C).

27 X 2 = 54

This means for 27 quality hours you should have 54 quality points.  Now let’s look at how many Quality points you actually have in this example, again reading off the DCC Adj Cum line this time under the QPTS (quality points) column:

AHRS             EHRS             QHRS             QPTS                GPA

Current                    6                      0                      6                  0                   0.00

DCC Adj Cum          45                    9                      27                21                   .777

To figure out the quality point deficit simply take the number of quality points you should have and subtract the number you actually have.  In this example:

54-21=33

This is your quality point deficit and this is the number you need to get to zero to reach a 2.0 GPA.  When dealing with quality point deficits use the following scale to determine how future letter grades will affect you deficit:

A (3cr) =         6pts off of your deficit
B (3cr)=          3pts off of your deficit
C (3cr) =         0pts off of your deficit
F (3cr) =         6pts added to you deficit

Repeat/Delete F with A (3cr) =        12pts off of your deficit
Repeat/Delete F with B (3cr) =         9pts off of your deficit
Repeat/Delete F with C (3cr) =        6pts off of your deficit
Repeat/Delete F with D (3cr) =        3pts off of your deficit
Repeat/Delete F with F (3cr) =         0pts off of your deficit
Repeat/Delete D with A (3cr) =        9pts off of your deficit
Repeat/Delete D with B (3cr) =        6pts off of your deficit
Repeat/Delete D with C (3cr) =        3pts off of your deficit
Repeat/Delete D with D (3cr) =        0pts off of your deficit
Repeat Delete D with F (3cr) =        3pts added to your deficit
