The Delgado
Community
College’s
Athletic
Department,
located on
the
sprawling
57-acre City
Park Campus,
has
developed
into one of
the most
successful
community
college
programs in
the entire
nation. In
the early
1970s, the
late Louis
“Rags”
Scheuermann,
as Athletic
Director and
Baseball
Coach, got
the program
off to a
great start
by
establishing
the link to
local and
regional
talent.
Coach Rags
Scheuermann
was known to
many as the
Dean of
Baseball in
New Orleans.
Under his
leadership
the athletic
programs
quickly
developed
and earned
the respect
of rival
community
colleges
throughout
the southern
region.
In the past
thirty years
the athletic
teams have
made many
appearances
in the
conference,
regional and
district
playoffs.
Both men’s
basketball
and men’s
baseball
teams have
made
appearances
in the
Junior
College
National
Championships.
In the light
of such
success,
Delgado has
become a
proving
ground
athletically
and
academically
for local
and region
talent. |
