ENGL 212 - American Literature After 1865

This class is a survey of American Literature from the Civil War to the present. We will read some of the major American writers from this time period and explore their place historically and ideologically to see how the narrative of American letters has been formed. This will be a rapid tour of some seminal American writers, offering you an introduction to their works. As the term “survey” suggests, the course does not provide intensive study of a particular period or writer. Instead it is intended to demonstrate recurrent themes and issues that reflect differences between historical periods. Prerequisite: "C" or better in ENGL 102.
