LEGAL SECRETARY

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Legal Secretary Certificate Program?
The LSCP (Legal Secretary Certificate Program) was developed through a collaborative effort between Delgado’s Business Studies Division and members of the local legal community in an effort to address the need for legal secretaries.

How do I enroll in the program?
Students must first complete an Application for Admission to Delgado which can be obtained through the Admissions Office or calling the Office of Enrollment Services at (504) 671-5012. Information on transcripts, immunization, financial aid, etc., will be provided.

Do I have to get approval to be admitted into the program?
Although this is not necessary, students are urged to contact Terri Gonzales-Kreisman at (504) 671-6134 or e-mail her at  tgonza@dcc.edu  so that she can answer any questions not addressed here. Also, since each student’s background and needs are different, personal contact with Mrs. Gonzales-Kreisman is essential so that students receive any specific recommendations that would enhance their successful completion of the program.

If I already have some general and/or legal secretarial experience, do I have to take all courses listed in the curriculum?
Since each situation varies, this is another important reason to speak with Mrs. Gonzales-Kreisman.

I have no secretarial experience at all—am I still a program candidate?
ABSOLUTELY! Of course, keyboarding speed is one of the most important requirements for job placement. However, many students with no prior training have successfully completed the program by taking the necessary Keyboarding classes and concentrating on skill development.

I have been out of school for some time—am I still a program candidate?
ABSOLUTELY! Delgado students come from all backgrounds. You are limited only by your willingness to work and desire to succeed.

Is there a time limit on completion of the program?
You may work at your own pace.

Are classes offered on all campuses? Day and night? All three semesters?
Most classes are offered on all campuses, mornings and evenings, during Fall, Spring and Summer. Others are offered only in Fall and Spring, and some offerings may change due to enrollment needs. Please consult Mrs. Gonzales-Kreisman for specific course offerings and prerequisite information.
