How To Calculate Your GPA

Calculate Your GPA

Delgado Community College utilizes the four-point system in calculating the grade point average.  The GPA is the total number of grade points earned divided by the number of semester hours attempted.  Semester grade symbols have the following values: "A"=4 points; "B"=3 points; "C"=2 points; "D"=1 point; "F"=0 points. Neither hours nor grades are calculated for "I", "W", "P", "AU", "YA", "YB", "YC", or "YD".  To maintain an average of "C", grade points divided by semester hours attempted must equal at least 2.00.

Multiply the credit hours of each course you have completed by the numerical value of the letter grade for each separate course (i.e., A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0)*. Add them together to obtain the "Grade Value Sum." Next add the number of credit hours (not grades) for all courses in question to obtain the "Credit Hour Sum." Divide the "Grade Value Sum" by the "Credit Hour Sum" to obtain your GPA.

For example:

Divide 37 by 13, i.e., 37/13 = 2.846. The GPA = 2.85 (rounded off).

Pass-Fail Courses and Noncredit Courses are not included when calculating GPA.
