Delgado Education Association (DEA)

 

 DEA is a strong, well-organized student association of future professionals majoring in Care & Development of Young Children and related professions.

It is part of the Delgado College Student Government Association (SGA).


Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster strong leadership qualities within our future educators.

We intend to do so by offering numerous educational opportunities through workshops, seminars, and conferences.

We aspire to have each our members stand as affiliates of the National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC).


Joining DEA

New members may join by completing an application and submitting it to an advisor or officer plus joining NAEYC (contact: naeyc.org )

New members are advised to speak to a DEA advisor to fill out the membership survey.

Requirements for Active Membership

         Enrollment in Delgado Community College

         Attendance at monthly DEA meetings and/or participation in fundraising activities

         Membership in National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) ($35.00 annual student membership fee)

         Attendance at community and organizational professional events such as the Jamboree, Day of the Young Child, Student Expo/Display, and seminars



Benefits of Active Membership

  • Members of NAEYC automatically hold membership in the DEA, The Louisiana Association for the Education of Young Children (LAEYC) and the Greater New Orleans Association for the Education of Young Children (GNOAEYC)
  • Members of NAEYC receive journals and reduced or free entrance to many seminars and activities  
  • Professional conferences, seminars, and workshops enhance résumé and career
  • Network with Early Childhood professionals and with students from Delgado and other colleges and universities  
  • Attend monthly meetings where your voice can be heard concerning student issues  
  • Gain leadership and organizational experiences by supporting the DEA and the SGA campus improvement efforts, fundraisers, and activities
