Energy Efficiency Training
Energy Efficiency Specialist Training Program
Delgado Community College has formed a partnership with the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources, Home Builders Association of Greater New Orleans, and Entergy New Orleans Inc. to offer an Energy Efficiency Specialist Training Program. The goal of this training program is to create a workforce of Energy Efficiency Specialists that can perform the following duties:
- Analyze Energy Efficient (EE) Recommendations
- Contractor Coordinator (Outside are of expertise)
- Home and Small Business Energy Assesments
- Install Economic EE Recommendations
The class is restricted to individuals working or studying in fields related to the home improvement or construction industry which includes:
- Architects
- Engineers
- Former and Current Certified Energy Raters
- Framing Contractors
- HBI (Home Builders Institute) trained students (with blower door and six months advanced weatherization experience)
- Home Inspectors
- General Contractors
- HVAC/Mechanic Contractors
- Insulation Contractors
- Students currently enrolled in a building trade program at Delgado Community College, Louisiana Technical College, or any other institution of higher education
Prerequisite:
- Students are required to download and read the first three chapters of The Guide To Energy Efficient Homes in Louisiana (Builders Guide) before attending the first class. Published by the Louisiana Department of Natural Resouces, The Guide is 230 pages and can be obtained on the following website: http://dnr.louisiana.gov/sec/EXECDIV/TECHASMT/programs/residential/builders_guide_2009/Builder's%20Guide.pdf
As a minimum, students should be familiar with:
- Word processsing software - such as Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Internet Explorer - Particularly Search Engines
- Report Writing Skills
- Basic Math for construction - (eg. Calculating area, perimeter, volume, etc. of buildings)
- Student has obtained a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to reserve 10 to 20 hours per week, for the next eight weeks, to complete home assignments
Classroom Training and Exam (24 hrs - 8 three hour class sessions)
- Building Basics
- Building Science
- Cost vs. Savings of EE Recommendations
Hands- On Field Experience
- 24 hours hands-on instructor led field experience (blower door testing, air-infiltration; duct leakage)
- Basic & Advanced Weatherization
- Plus Team Practium(1 week allowed)
- 8 Classroom Sessions (24 hrs)
