In addition to a brief course description you will find the date, time, and price of the course along with the course number. You will need to use this number when filling out your registration form if you choose to enroll. Courses fall into the following categories: Business, Legal, Computer Technology Training, Language and Communication, Home and Garden, Art and Design, Skill Building Training, Food and Beverage, Sports/Health Wellness, Dancing, and Special Interests. This 40-hour training course prepares one to take the State Private Investigator Exam required to apply for a private investigator license. Course and instructor approved by the Louisiana State Board of private Investigator Examiners. Fee includes training material. Professional Tour Guiding

This program is a great way to gain skills in the tourism industry as well as detailed knowledge of the city of New Orleans. The goal of the class is to train students in the skills necessary to work in the tourism industry with emphasis on skills for being an effective tour guide, and on tourism in New Orleans. Computer Fundamentals

The course includes setting up the computer, and the function of the computer keyboard, and an introduction to operating systems Windows. Introduction to the Macintosh Platform

This course will cover the basics of Apple’s OS X 10.5 “Leopard” operating system, starting with the basics of Mac hardware configurations, through OS navigation, file types and handling, common keyboard shortcuts, maintenance, Automator, Screen Share, AppleTalk, and more. Upon completion of this course students should have a firm grasp of the Macintosh platform and be comfortable and competent using the the OS X operating system environment. Web Page Design Fundamentals

Web Design Fundamentals teach the complete process of Web page design, from the basics of HTML to strategies for designing and building a complete Web site. Students begin by exploring the anatomy of a typical Web page, creating a simple HTML page, and learning to work with Web text and graphics. An important emphasis in this course is to teach students sound principles for designing Web sites, which includes creating paper prototypes. The course includes a thorough primer in HTML coding that serves as a solid grounding for the use of FrontPage in the last two lessons. Students learn to use FrontPage to create a moderately complex home page that they can post on the Web.

Introduction to Final Cut Pro 6

This course will cover the most basic fundamentals of the applications bundled with Final Cut Studio 2: Final Cut Pro, LiveType, Motion, SoundTrack Pro, Compressor, and DVD Studio Pro, spending one week with each. Upon completion of the course students should be able to navigate within each application, and understand it most basic functions, as well as the “Round Trip” process, workflows for various video file formats, as well as hardware requirements and configurations, and edit bay maintenance. Each student will be required to complete a 30 second television spot which will be screened and reviewed, as well as pass a written test at the end of this course. Students will have access to the Final Cut Lab outside of class to complete their projects.

Workforce Development and Education’s Emergency Response Institute was developed to reinforce the workforce in emergency response situations. A certificate is awarded upon completion of each course. Students can use the completion certificate for direct contact hours.

comprehensive course that expounds on the skills and knowledge acquired upon successful completion of the EMT-B or EMT-Intermediate course work. Some of the skills that must be mastered during this course include interpretation of electrocardiograms, defibrillation, intravenous therapy, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and other patient care techniques.

Pre-hospital Hazardous Materials Awareness Course

This class informs emergency responders of the possible dangers of hazardous materials. The class will utilize the reference material carried by all emergency response vehicles as mandated by the State of Louisiana. Course material follows NFPA 472, and 29CFR1910.120. This course meets requirements for Jefferson and Orleans Parish licenses as well as BEMS CEU. (8 hours, 1 day)
Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support Initial Provider Class XXAO207 16 hours $250
This course is coordinated through NAEMT, which certifies the student for 4 years as a provider for pre-hospital trauma care. Content covered includes pre-hospital trauma assessment, packaging techniques, and trauma care of adults, children and the elderly. Anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular, respiratory and circulatory systems are also reviewed. Potential trauma injuries are covered such as management of life threatening hemorrhage, fluid therapy/replacement and airway management on the basic and advanced level.

This course is coordinated through NAEMT, which certifies the student for 4 years as a provider for Emergency Pediatric Care. Content covers NAEMT curriculum for EPC, which covers A&P of an in-depth study of pre-hospital care of injured and ill children. Prevention and management of special needs patients are also discussed. This course also covers the necessary content to re-certify under the PALS refresher course upon successful completion of the PALS test. (16 hours, 2 days)
Swift Water/Flood Rescue Awareness Level NFPA compliant Course XXMM106 8 hours $100
No prerequisite needed. Obtain an understanding of National Standards, flood types and phases, absolutes of swift water rescue planning, debris flow and mudslides, moving water dynamics, flood characteristics/phenomena, low to high risk rescue operations, contaminates/decontamination and standard operating procedures. Swift Water/Flood Operations Level NFPA compliant Course XXAB106 9 hours $300
Prerequisite: Awareness level training. Learn the ideologies of the “talk, reach, wade, throw, helo technique, row, go” methods of rescue recovery, hands on training using PFDs, helmets, throw bags, rescue lines, carabineers and rescue boats. Learn basic communications in moving water/flood situation; demonstrate/explain safe methods of swift moving, shallow water crossings to evacuate victims and the equipment needed; proper body position and techniques for swift water swimming (offensive, defensive and ferry angles); explain “live bait” drills; understand/demonstrate/explain basic small rescue boat operations and basic two-point boat rescue operations. Training for this course is at an off-site location.

Swift Water/Flood Technician Level NFPA compliant Course XXCQ115 30 hours $665
Prerequisite: Awareness and Operations level. Each student will have to complete watermanship skills, attend all three training days, participate in the live action night time drill, complete and pass the required written test and complete rope skills test in the presence of an instructor. Required paperwork for this course includes medical questionnaire, liability release, student tracking and emergency contact form. Participants who successfully complete all requirements of this course will receive a certificate of completion, Swift Water Patches and Identification Card. Training for this course is at an off-site location. (3 days, 30 hours)
