The Youth Occupational Skills Training Program (Y.O.S.T.) offers qualified individuals between 18 and 21 an opportunity to enroll in tuition-free training for high demand occupations leading to industry-based certifications.  Some of our trainings do not require a high school diploma or GED.  Training enrollment is ongoing and is done on a first come, first served basis.

  • Academic skills enhancement

  • Workshops for resumes, cover letters, and interview skills techniques

  • Mentoring sessions providing life skills training

  • Customer service skills training

  • Supportive services: gas cards or bus passes

  • Monetary incentives for reaching program goals (up to $600)

  • Job placement assistance provided after training

         


 

How can I enroll in the Y.O.S.T. Program?

Interested applicants will need to make an appointment to meet with a program facilitator to begin the enrollment process.  You will be required to bring the following documents to your appointment:

 

  • Picture Identification (Driver’s License or Picture ID)

  • Social Security Card

  • Birth Certificate

  • Proof of Residency

  • Proof of Income

  • High School Diploma or GED (if attained)

  • Immunization Records

  • Selective Service Registration (males only)

 




WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM THE Y.O.S.T. PROGRAM?

  • Prior to enrollment, you will be required to take the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Assessment to determine your current skill level in Math and Reading.

  • If selected, you will be enrolled as a Delgado Community College student and receive training in the occupational area of your choice at one of our local locations.

  • As a participant, the program will require you to attend workshops to assist you with resume writing, interviewing techniques, and other workshops.

  • As a participant, you will also be required to engage in academic enrichment sessions to help increase your level of proficiency in math and reading.

  • As a participant, your training will be monitored to ensure your success and Progress Reports will be submitted by your instructor to assess your performance and track your attendance on a bi-weekly basis.

  • As a participant, you may be eligible to gain up to $600 in incentives for program completion, basic skills upgrade, employment, GED attainment, and overall program goals.

  • Upon successful completion of training, job search, and job placement assistance will be provided.
