Youth Occupational Skills Training

Free training for eligible youth!

With funding provided by the Jefferson Parish Workforce investment board; Delgado Community College's Workforce Development and Education Department sponsors an employment program for qualifying youth ages 17 to 21. The Y.O.S.T. program seeks to enhance the ability of youth to obtain employment, upgrade their academic ability, and begin building a career. Y.O.S.T. provides assistance with:

  •  Academic Development
  • Skills Training Development
  • Job Readiness Skills
  • Job Seeking Skills
  • Job Placement Assistance

How does it work?

> Interested Y.O.S.T participants start by taking a basic skills assessment to determine their current skill level. The assessments are used only as a measurement tool, which provides an indication of their ability to work in any of the specific training areas.

> A certified teacher will assist in participants upgrading their academic skills. Participants are also encouraged to utilize one of two computer labs in order to upgrade their basic skills. Lab space is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

> Participants can select the training area of their choice and begin the exploration process of their desired career paths with the guidance of our program facilitators.

> Participants are enrolled in their specific training classes where they receive hands on experience; in addition to classroom lectures.

> Upon completion of the training, assistance is provided by our program facilitators in obtaining employment.

> Participants are able to attend job readiness workshops in Financial Management, Interviewing Techniques, Resume Writing and/or Presenting a Professional Image.

  • Microsoft Office Assistant
  • Patient Care Technician
