The below pictured individual is a known and confirmed mental patient that lives near the City Park Campus and is a former student.  The individual, Derris Crayton, has been frequenting the campus as if he was still attending as a student.  On Tuesday, May 6, 2014, he was in a computer lab class when the instructor asked that he leave because he was not a student.  Mr. Crayton refused to leave and started hurling verbal threats and using profanity.  Campus police was called to escort the individual off campus, as he was being escorted off campus he became combative and threatened to come back and kill everyone including all the police officers.  He was arrested and transported by the New Orleans Police Department to the hospital for observation.  His photograph is below, if he is observed do not approach him call campus police at 671-6111.

A student reported that he gave a ride to a classmate and on arrival at the location unknown subjects attempted to car jack him. The victim fled the scene unharmed and nothing was taken. The victim reported that his classmate fled with the perpetrators. The classmate has been arrested for allegedly setting up the attempted robbery. 

Students are cautioned about giving rides to anyone that they are not very familiar with and trust.

On Tuesday, August 27, 2013, a known student reported to campus police that they believed a staff employee had video taped them without their knowledge and permission. An investigation was conducted and the student's allegation was substantiated. A contract employee was arrested and booked with video voyeurism.

On Wednesday, 2-27-13, at approximately 8:50pm, it was reported to campus police that a Delgado Community College student was at the Burger King located on City Park Ave across from the college reporting an armed robbery. The officer met with the victim, who stated she was putting her belongings in the back seat of her vehicle. When a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black mask over his face approached her, placed a gun to her side and told her to drop her keys and purse. She complied with his demands, the subject picked up the keys and purse, entered her vehicle and fled the scene. The subject fled down N. Anthony then unknown. The incident occurred at the intersection of N. Anthony and Conti Streets. The incident is being investigated by NOPD.

On Wednesday, February 20, 2013, a Delgado student reported that he was robbed at gun point. The victim stated he was approached by an unknown black male, approximately six foot tall, muscular build, wearing a dark colored hooded shirt. The victim reported that he had just exited his vehicle, a 2004 Toyota Highlander, parked in the 800 Block of Navarre St. When the subject approached him and forced him to the ground, by placing a gun to the back of head. The subject then took the victim wallet and keys to his vehicle. The subject entered the vehicle, and fled down Orleans Ave., making a right turn onto City Park Ave. The NOPD is investigating.


 

We would like to remind Delgado Community College students, staff, and faculty that they should exercise caution and immediately report any suspicious activity to campus police.

Crime Prevention Tips

  • Be alert. Stay aware of your surroundings and watch for danger.

  • Walk with a friend, especially after dark.  Use lighted pathways on campus.

  • Report all emergencies, crimes and suspicious persons on campus to the campus police.
