“Ice
Cream Social” is a Success |
|
On May
5, employees at all campuses turned out for the
college-wide “Appreciation Ice Cream Social.” The
event, sponsored by Human Resources, was held
simultaneously on the City Park, West Bank, Charity
School of Nursing and Northshore-Slidell.
Public Service Recognition Week was May 3 – 9 and State
Employee Recognition Day was Wednesday, May 5, as
designated by the Louisiana Department of State Civil
Service.
Public Service Recognition Week was a great opportunity
for managers to express employee appreciation for their
service to the College. Arnel Cosey, dean of Student
Affairs for City Park Campus, shared information on an
event that her division held to show appreciation to
employees in the student service areas.
On May 7, the City Park Campus Student Affairs division
held an Employee Reception in honor of the employees who
do good work in the various student service
departments--Admissions and Enrollment Services,
Advising, Retention and Counseling Center, Financial
Assistance Office, Register’s Office, Student Life,
Student Support Services, Veterans Upward Bound Office,
and the Testing and Assessment Office. The event was the
second one of its kind for the Student Affairs
employees--the first being a king cake party held during
the Mardi Gras season.
Staff from all Student Affairs departments attended and
shared one-hour of fellowship and camaraderie with their
colleagues. In attendance were Dr. Alex Johnson, Harold
Gaspard, Dr. Jeffery Smith, Carmen Walters, Carol
Gniady, Connie Varnado and Carol Craft.
"This reception is a great opportunity to develop a
sense of team effort for our entire student services
division and helps us remain connected with one
another. Additionally, it allows the directors and me
the opportunity to show support and appreciation for the
staff," said Arnel Cosey, dean of Student Affairs.

Open House: Printing Service and Web
Development
|
|
Offices
Utilize the Latest Technology |
|
On May
7, Printing Services and Web Development held an open
house to showcase their latest printing equipment and
office spaces located in Building 38 on the City Park
Campus.
Printing Services recently moved after being located in
Building 10 for decades and serves the college community
with graphic design and print/production services. The
Web Development Office, which
manages
the college’s official web site, joined Printing
Services after relocating from the CATT office.
Those
who attended the Open House got a first-hand look at two
new pieces of equipment that save time, money and
utilize less space.
A
self-contained digital plate maker, the size of a
standard photocopy machine, replaces the old technology
that once utilized a darkroom, large copy camera and
numerous chemicals. The new device takes files directly
from the computer and produces up to 70 plates an hour,
increasing productivity and adding a calibration process
that improves color printing, using cyan, magenta,
yellow and black plates.
The
second piece of equipment is a state-of-the-art Epson
9600 color printer that will exponentially increase not
only a myriad of color printing options, but also are
great variety of paper types and sizes. The Epson
9600 is capable of printing on just about any kind of
paper; from 12 lb. stock to 1.5 millimeter poster board.
It employs a seven-color process that can print up to a
resolution of 2880 x 1440 dpi, and as many as 28 billion
dots for each of its 96 nozzles, hence providing optimum
accuracy. The Printing Department is very excited to
acquire such a piece of machinery, enabling the graphic
designers to help realize their creative talents while
simultaneously providing commercial quality printing
services to the college community.
