GNO, Inc. Announces EMT Training Partnership.

The press conference to announce the launch of GNO, Inc.’s campaign to create healthcare jobs in New Orleans by promoting a new training program was held in the Allied Health Building on Delgado’s City Park Campus, May 13.

GNO, Inc., is partnering with Louisiana Community and Technical College System, the National Emergency Medical Services Academy, Acadian Ambulance Service and School to Career, Inc. to recruit students for careers in emergency medical services.

Delgado Chancellor Alex Johnson welcomed the community and business leaders in attendance.  Johnson stressed Delgado’s “willingness to extend the opportunities of workforce training in emergency medical technician-paramedic field in order to fill the many vacancies that currently exists.”

Part of the press conference included a demonstration of the college’s new ambulance simulator narrated by Debra Redfearn, BGS, REMT-P, program director for Delgado’s EMTE-Paramedic program.  Melissa Mollere, EMT-P instructor, and EMTP senior students gave a demonstration on how paramedics stabilize a patient.

“The drive to connect good job opportunities with workforce resources is part of GNO, Inc.’s mission to create 30,000 new jobs over the next five years,“ said Mark Drennen, President and CEO of GNO, Inc.

Acadian Ambulance Chairman & CEO Richard Zuschlag said people entering the courses at Delgado, Nunez or the National EMS Academy will embark on a one-year program preparing them for paramedic certification. “After passing the state licensing requirement,” he said, “they can begin earning $35,000-plus per year. They can actually start working after three months when they qualify at the EMT-Basic level.”
