Services
Academy, Acadian Ambulance Service and School to Career,

Delgado
Chancellor Alex Johnson welcomed the community and
business leaders in attendance. Johnson stressed
Delgado’s “willingness to extend the opportunities of
workforce training in emergency medical
technician-paramedic field in order to fill the many
vacancies that currently exists.”
Part of the press conference included a demonstration of
the college’s new ambulance simulator narrated by Debra
Redfearn, BGS, REMT-P, program director for Delgado’s
EMTE-Paramedic program. Melissa Mollere, EMT-P
instructor, and EMTP senior students gave a
demonstration on how paramedics stabilize a patient.
“The

Acadian
Ambulance Chairman & CEO Richard Zuschlag said people
entering the courses at Delgado, Nunez or the National
EMS Academy will embark on a one-year program preparing
them for paramedic certification. “After passing the
state licensing requirement,” he said, “they can begin
earning $35,000-plus per year. They can actually start
working after three months when they qualify at the EMT-Basic
