New
Library
at the West Bank Campus |
|
|
Delgado
Community College’s West Bank Campus has relocated their
library to a space twice as large as the original
library and is increasing its services to meet the needs
of nearly 3,000 students. In addition to added space,
improved facilities include twice as many reading
tables, study carrels, bookshelves and office space. A
major addition to the library’s service is the new
Information Literacy classroom for Internet research
instruction. The library has added twelve additional
computers giving twenty computers for student use.
Emily
Painton, assistant dean of Library Services, West Bank
Campus, said, “Now that we have moved to the new larger
library location, the students have a much quieter and
more pleasant place to study and do research. Because
of this, I have found that more students are coming into
the library. Over and over the students tell me how
much they love the new library. That makes me happy
because these students deserve the best.”
The
West Bank Campus library’s hours of operation are Monday
through Thursday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Friday,
8 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m. - noon. The library’s
office phone number is (504) 361-6300.

LeepFrog Pagewizard Launched! |
|
After eight
months of preparation, planning, and
conversion the Web Development Office
unveiled LeepFrog Pagewizard content
management for the Delgado web site.
LeepFrog Pagewizard is web based
software that allows faculty and staff
to develop their own website without
knowing the first thing about web
design. With the customized templates,
Pagewizard makes web design as simple as
typing in Word or Notepad. Pagewizard
works great for sites ranging from a
small site to post a syllabus to a fully
functional site that contains all of a
department’s
files, photos and other information. Pagewizard
offers all the features of web design in
just a few simple steps, including
adding photos from the Delgado web site
design photo gallery.
“This is a
truly revolutionary tool that enables
our faculty and staff to contribute to
the Delgado web site and help grow our
offerings there,” said Chancellor Alex
Johnson. “It is important that we
continue to add information and
resources on the web site for increased
service to students and our
constituents,” continued Johnson.
Over the
course of two days in late February more
than thirty faculty and staff attended
LeepFrog Pagewizard workshops in the
CATT representing more than 30 offices
and departments with new web pages to
add. Web Site Coordinator Joe Clark led
the workshops and also offers one-on-one
sessions by appointment. Currently,
Clark is developing an on-line tutorial
for even greater access. Additional
workshops are being scheduled and will
be announced in the near future.
The Web Development
Office is featuring the Delgado Campus
Police site as an example of a fully
integrated LeepFrog site that is managed
entirely by their staff. Campus Police
can now work on their department’s
website in a matter of minutes and have
more time to work on other important
issues. Kathy LeBoeuf is the person
behind the Campus Police website and
stated “Leepfrog is really easy to use
and gives our department the ability to
keep our web pages updated daily. It is
very convenient to be able to modify our
own web content for the crime alerts
section and other department
information. We have 15 pages for our
department and Leepfrog makes it very
easy to maintain and help us grow!”
Please visit the Campus
Police site by
clicking here. As new pages
are added the Web Development Office
will promote them within the “featured
site” section on the home page. For
more information, contact Joe Clark at
jclark1@dcc.edu, or call 483-4960.
