Dr. Jerry Sue
Thornton---“One-College
Identity”
|
|
|
On March 31, Delgado Community College
hosted Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton, president of Cuyahoga
Community College, for two sessions of her presentation
on the One-College Concept in the Student Life Center on
the City Park Campus.
Dr. Thornton is one of the country’s
leading experts on the philosophy of the one-college
identity. She has been described in the Worthington
Bicentennial Newsletter as “dynamic”… “a powerful force”
… “engaging” … “her ‘just folks’ style is delightful and
her enthusiasm, foresight and passion is inspiring.”
Many faculty and staff members took
advantage of this rare opportunity to meet Dr. Thornton
and explore the one-college identity concept and the
implications it has on the college’s faculty, staff and
administrators.
In the morning, Dr. Thornton addressed
the benefits of “The One-College Identity” in a
multi-campus district to staff and administrators. In
the afternoon, she spoke about “The One-College
Identity: Teaching and Learning” within the unified
college for faculty members.

Dr.
Jerry Sue Thornton discussed ways to maximize your
leadership within the One-College Concept. |

Culinary and
Hospitality Career Fair |
|
The Office of Admissions and Enrollment
Services, along with the Culinary/Hospitality
Department, hosted the annual Culinary/Hospitality
Career Fair on the City Park Campus in the Student Life
Center on April 5. The fair attracted more than 120 high
school students, in grades 10 through 12, currently
enrolled in high school culinary and hospitality
academies representing Jefferson, Orleans, and St.
Charles parishes.
Among those students present were two
student chefs from L. W. Higgins High School, who are
both bronze winners in this year’s Skills USA
competition held at Louisiana Technical College in
Lafayette. The students welcomed the opportunity to
learn about the admissions process from the staff of
Admissions and Enrollment Services along with the
benefits of culinary arts and hospitality degrees and
certificates from the assembled Delgado Culinary Arts
Department staff, including Karl Tipton, Barry Brantley,
Maurice Fitzgerald and program director Dr. Mary
Bartholomew. Fair attendees had the chance to observe
the Delgado culinary arts students decorating cakes. The
day ended with a campus tour and students enjoyed lunch
in the cafeteria of the Student Life Center.
