Chancellor’s
Welcome Reception Held |
|
The Delgado Community College family held
a reception to welcome Chancellor Alex Johnson and Mrs.
Daphne Johnson on Thursday, March 11 on the City Park
Campus in the Student Life Center.
In addition to a tremendous showing of
faculty and staff members, more than 350 guests,
including LCTCS representatives, business
representatives, elected officials, Delgado Foundation
Board members, and college and university chancellors,
were in attendance. Festivities included music by the
Delgado Jazz Ensemble, cocktails and hors d’ oeuvres.
LCTC System President Walter Bumphus led
the welcoming remarks and gift presentations. New
Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin presented Chancellor Johnson
with a gift and proclaimed March 11 “a special day of
honor as we welcome him to the City of New Orleans as
the new chancellor of Delgado Community College.”
Outgoing interim Delgado Chancellor Raymond Garrity
presented Chancellor Johnson with the Delgado
Chancellor’s medallion that is worn during commencement
and other official college ceremonies. Dr. Donna Alley,
provost of the West Bank Campus and acting vice
chancellor for Academic Affairs, presented the Johnsons
with a gift from the college of a cut glass ice holder
and a gift card for Jacques Imo’s Cafe.

Correction to “Opening Doors” story: |
|
NetWorks
would like to clarify the WorkKeys instruction
as referred to in the “First Opening Doors
Checks Distributed” story in the March 17
edition.
The story stated… “(Opening
Doors) participants must take a WorkKeys
Literacy Assessment test and receive special
support training while enrolled at Delgado…”
WorkKeys is not a requirement for
an Opening Doors program participant, unless the
student receives Tuition Assistance for Needy
Families (TANF) program funds. Currently, there
are approximately ten TANF participants in the
Opening Doors program; therefore those students
must enroll in WorkKeys.
Also, TANF students receive
additional assessment through WorkKeys and
enrichment training using Aztec, Plato, and
KeyTrain. The TANF participants receive a
WorkReady Certificate from the Louisiana
Workforce Commission when they successfully
complete their TANF program.
We regret the confusion. |

Questions to be discussed at the planned

In what general academic areas would
most students be enrolled?
In what areas of the academic experience
of students do we have the greatest
impact outside of their degree programs?
How could learning in these areas be
improved across the college?
