Enrollment Services Holds Staff
Development Day |
|
The Office of
Admissions and Enrollment Services held a
full-day staff development seminar entitled
“Raising the Standards” at Select
Proprieties Limited on Airline Drive on
Thursday, April 8.
The theme of
the seminar reflected the direction that the
Admissions and Enrollment Services office is
taking in meeting new initiatives presented
by Chancellor Alex Johnson. In addition, the
seminar served as a way to address the
changes in the reporting procedures that are
being implemented at the College and the
Board of Regents levels.
Staffers had the
opportunity to take some quality time for
reflection, become reenergized, gain a
better understanding of the department’s
role and see how each member of the team
impacts the overall college mission.
Motivational
speaker Danna Andrus presented “The
Practicing Professional,” which featured
professionalism, understanding the role each
member of the team plays, stress management,
and understanding the population that the
College serves.
Interactive team
activities included a presentation by Silvia
Bustamanate, International Student advisor,
on “International Students 101” that focused
on the changes in immigration polices.
Arnel Cosey,
interim dean of Student Affairs, addressed
the group on “Project Focus,” a program
designed to articulate the college’s new
“learning centered” approach.
The day ended
with “True Color,” a character workshop
presented by Gwen Boutte, director of
Admissions and Enrollment Services. “The
activity reviewed various personality types
and how even through we are all different,
we can work together as a team,” said Boutte.
Each
participating staff member received a
certificate from Boutte commending them for
accepting the challenge of “raising the
standards” in the Office of Admissions and
Enrollment Services and a seminar themed
t-shirt.
Lee Giorgio,
president of Select Proprieties Limited and
Delgado Foundation board member, provided
the meeting’s facilities. The seminar was
partially funded by Spantran Educational
Consultancy.

semesters of calculus. She will be attending
the University of New Orleans in the fall as a
pre-med major. She has been a member of
Delgado’s chapter of ΜΑΘ for two years, serving

Excellence in Mathematics award was given in
2002. In 2003 the members of the organization
voted to rename the award in honor of Dr.
McDonald. This year a private donation was made
to the organization so that a scholarship could
accompany the award. Dr. Frances McDonald and
Richard Sasser, professor of mathematics, are
the sponsors of the organization.
