Yard Sign Giveaway Event Held for Spring 2020 Delgado Graduates

June 03, 2020

Delgado Community College faculty, staff, and administrators—many wearing academic regalia--distributed yard signs to Spring 2020 graduates driving through campus in their cars. About 200 graduates chose to participate.

The event took place at the City Park Campus Student Life Center Tuesday, June 2, 10 a.m.-noon. Graduates in their cars entered campus via the Navarre gate next to WYES, proceeded to an area near Kirsch-Rooney Stadium to check in, then looped around the parking lot to the Student Life Center portico entrance. There, Chancellor Larissa Littleton-Steib and a group of Delgado faculty, staff, and administrators wearing masks and observing social distancing greeted them. Each graduate’s name was announced and applause ensued. Chancellor Steib then passed a yard sign into each vehicle through an open window. Graduates did not leave their cars. Several drivers sounded their horns, and one vehicle equipped with a siren let those gathered know loud and clear how proud its occupants were to be in the proceedings.

The event was organized by volunteers from all divisions of the college, and deans and vice chancellors wore their caps, gowns—and masks—with pride during the two-hour event on a very warm and humid June morning. Campus Police made certain all safety protocols were followed.

Delgado Spring Commencement ceremonies have been postponed until August 4. The college provided the yard signs to spring graduates at this event so they can express their pride in graduating from Delgado, and be recognized now.
