There are plans to launch the restored boat--which can be viewed at the corner of Magazine and Andrew Higgins--in early 2017, and these people will be among those operating it on Lake Pontchartrain, where they will be offering rides to the public. This means that Delgado is training a new crew of a boat that was built here in New Orleans more than 70 years ago and restored here over the past nine years.
Part of Delgado’s City Park Campus is the former location of a Higgins Industries plant where PT and Higgins landing boats were built during WWII. Delgado was a trades school then, and our students, faculty and graduates were among those who worked in the plant. They were praised by Andrew Higgins for their contributions to the success of his business and the war effort.
