Delgado Community College has received official notification of reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
The reaffirmation process occurs on a 10-year cycle, which means that Delgado’s degrees, diplomas and certificates are accredited by SACSCOC through 2026.
Delgado, a multi-parish institution established in the city of New Orleans in 1921, first received SACSCOC accreditation in 1971. By 2026, Delgado Community College will have provided SACSCOC-accredited higher education in the region for 55 years.
“Accreditation is of paramount importance for any higher education institution. It is wonderful to receive notification of Delgado’s reaccreditation by SACSCOC,” said Delgado Community College Chancellor Joan Y. Davis. “We know that we provide excellent instruction and services to our students, and the success of the reaccreditation process is the result of hard work by our faculty and staff, who are to be commended. Delgado Community College has served the greater New Orleans region for 95 years, and we are off and running for the next 10 years to provide affordable, accessible, accredited education and workforce training for everyone we serve,” Davis said.
Earlier this year, Delgado officials received positive feedback from the visiting committee who spent November 16-19, 2015 reviewing procedures, interviewing faculty, staff and students, and visiting the college’s instructional sites in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes. The results of the committee’s report were taken under consideration by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees in June, and the college was notified on July 6 that it has been granted continued accreditation.
SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. The commission’s mission is the enhancement of educational quality throughout the region and it strives to improve the effectiveness of institutions by ensuring that institutions meet standards established by the higher education community that address the needs of society and students. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America and other international sites approved by the Commission on Colleges that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees.

Delgado Community College’s 35 associate degree programs; 84 certificate, technical competency area and technical diploma programs; and more than 200 non-credit courses enable Delgado to meet the needs of every type of student, regardless of entry point, educational goal or career aspiration. More than 25,000 students enroll each semester. Delgado has transfer articulation agreements with most of the state’s four-year colleges and universities, enabling students wishing to pursue higher degrees to easily transfer credits into baccalaureate programs.
