Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) attorney Jay Welch and SLLS were honored with the inaugural Legal Service Innovation Award for the Single Stop legal assistance program at Delgado Community College, which offers free legal help to Delgado students, particularly to remove hurdles to their progress in school and in life.
Welch and SLLS received the Legal Service Innovation Award from the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Access to Justice Committee on October 12. The award recognizes a Louisiana attorney or organization that has developed an innovative program or service that effectively meets the legal needs of vulnerable populations across the state and serves as a model approach for other advocates in the justice community.

At the October 12 Louisiana Justice Committee Conference: Presenting the award to attorney Jay Welch is Monte Mollere, Access to Justice Director of the Louisiana State Bar Association. Mollere coordinates the efforts of the Association and the Louisiana Bar Foundation in providing a stronger statewide system of delivery of legal services to the poor.
