Delgado Community College hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 22, for the new Student Life Center at the Delgado West Bank Campus in Algiers.
Among those addressing the attendees were: Joan Y. Davis, Delgado Community College Chancellor; La. House District 102 Representative Jeff Arnold; Woody Oge’, Chair, Louisiana Community and Technical Colleges System Board of Supervisors; Kimberly Frank, President, Delgado West Bank Campus Student Government Association.
The 10,800-square-foot, $2 million Student Life Center includes an area for students to relax between classes. It also offers a dining area, a game room and offices for Student Government and Campus Police. A self-assessed student fee provided the project’s funding. The College intends for the West Bank Campus Student Life Center to be a community resource as well as a campus focal point. Offices providing resources for women and veterans are included. Delgado has long anticipated providing a student life center at the West Bank Campus. Plans to construct a new facility, for which a groundbreaking took place in 2005, were abandoned after Hurricane Katrina.
