The Louisiana Technical College (LTC) Region 1 invites Orleans and Jefferson Parish high school students and their parents to attend an Open House reception 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at the LTC East Jefferson location (5200 Blair Drive, off of Airline Highway in Metairie, La.). There is no registration necessary to attend, and the event is free and open to the public.
The Open House will highlight technical employment opportunities in the region as well as the many programs offered at LTC Region 1’s East Jefferson, West Jefferson and Slidell locations that provide the precise education and skills training needed to enter these well-paying technical careers.
There will hands-on LTC departmental demonstrations in areas such as welding, air conditioning and heating, carpentry, electrician, nurse assistant, automotive, culinary arts, phlebotomy, pre-advanced manufacturing, accounting, office systems and more.
As well, faculty and staff of Delgado Community College's Practical Nursing (PN) program, will be providing information about the program and tours of its state-of-the-art facility. Delgado's PN program moved from the Charity School of Nursing Campus in downtown New Orleans to the new Center of Excellence for Allied Health and Practical Nursing at the LTC East Jefferson location in Metairie in January, 2008.
In addition, there will be experts on hand to offer information regarding Region 1 dual enrollment programs, LTC program and Delgado Practical Nursing application processes, financial aid and more.
Regional partner employers will also discuss viable employment opportunities, including current salary ranges for a number of technical careers.
