How Windows XP Service Pack 2 affects
Blackboard® behavior in Internet Explorer.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 introduces several important security enhancements that are designed to protect you from malicious sites, viruses, email worms and more. As part of these features, it introduces an enhancement known as Pop-up Blocker. The Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker (that is designed to protect novice users from automatic download prompts) prevents important elements in Blackboard from working correctly. One example is that when you try to join a Blackboard chat you will see the following.

You can either accept this small inconvenience and click the Information bar every time to accept the pop-up, or you can disable this feature in Internet Explorer.

 

You can disable this new feature for Delgado's Blackboard® Website!

Simply add http://www.dcc.edu and http://bb61.dcc.edu to your list of trusted sites:

This will override security settings for the specified sites only. It will also impact other security settings, not only pop-up behavior. By adding Delgado's Blackboard system to your trusted sites, the pop-up blocker feature is left ON for other websites that you may visit, as it can prevent malicious web sites from popping up download prompts (that you've never asked for), and prevents accepting of downloads and pop-ups by accident.

1.) Start Internet Explorer
2.) Click on the Tools Menu
3.) Select Internet Options



4.) Click on the Security Tab
5.) Click on the Green Trusted sites icon and then click on the Sites button



6.)Make sure that there is not a checkmark in the box next to Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone (see picture below)
7.)Type in http://bb61.dcc.edu/ (you may or may not have other web sites listed)
8.) Click on the Add button



9.)Type in http://www.dcc.edu/
10.) Click on the Add button
11.) Type in https://owa.dcc.edu/exchange
12.) Click on the Add button
13.) Click on the OK button
