Students with limited English proficiency are required to take the English as a Second Language (ESL) placement test prior to enrollment. The Office of Advising & Testing administers a standardized placement assessment, the College Board ACCUPLACER ESL. Applicants will not be refused admission to the college because of test scores. Test scores are valid for one year and are used for academic advising and placement only.
A $15 non-refundable fee will be charged for the test on the administration date. Once English proficiency has been established, students will take the math portion of the ACCUPLACER placement test which will also carry a $15 non-refundable fee.
ESL Listening, ESL Language Use, ESL Reading, and a paper and pencil writing sample are all covered on the test.
The ESL placement test is offered at the City Park Campus.

Students will be referred to the ESL Department to determine placement and to register for ESL courses. Students whose scores demonstrate English proficiency will be able to enroll in ENGL 101 and pursue a degree or certificate program. These students must return to the Testing Center with a form from the ESL Department stating that they have tested out of ESL courses and must schedule to take the math portion of the ACCUPLACER placement test.
