Accelerated Career Education (ACE)
What is Accelerated Career Education (ACE)?
The Accelerated Career Education (ACE) program at Delgado Community College integrates basic skills with career and technical instruction. ACE includes a set of certification and credit classes that are co-taught by an adult basic skills instructor and a career content instructor based on the I-BEST model.

Applying to ACE is easy!
If you’ve registered with the Adult Education Program before and have taken a TABE test in the last 6 months, please book an appointment with an academic coach to discuss your college interest and eligibility.
To book an appointment online, follow these steps:
- Go to the Delgado Adult Education Student Support site.
- Click the Book a Coaching Appointment button.
- Find Discuss College Options and click the Book It button next to it.
- On the calendar, click on a date that you'd like to meet, select the time that's best for you, and fill in the form.
- You'll receive a confirmation email with the time and location of your appointment. Add the appointment to your calendar!
To book your appointment by phone, please call (504) 671-5434 and leave a voicemail with your preferred days and times. We’ll return your call letting you know when we’ve booked your appointment. Add it to your calendar!
If you’ve registered with the Adult Education Program but it’s been more than 6 months since your last TABE test (or if you’re just not sure), please call us at (504) 671-5434 for next steps.
If you’ve never registered with Delgado’s Adult Education Program, simply register and attend orientation and testing.
You can register online a t Delgado Adult Education Student Support site or register in person at Delgado’s City Park campus (615 City Park Ave.), Building 7 (Marvin Thames Hall), Room 170.
Career Pathways
Delgado is currently offering four industry-specific Career Clusters in the Accelerating Career Education program.
Information Technology (IT)
- The IT Core Cluster is for you if you are interested in careers working with computers to perform essential work-related tasks.
- Individuals in this cluster are critical thinkers that manage networks for organizations, use technology in manufacturing, or manage patient records for a hospital.
- You will start with a foundation in computer systems that prepare you for the Internet and Computing Core (IC3) certification. IC3 has certifying exams in key applications, computing fundamentals, and living online. After completing this first step, you will transition in career sub-sector pathway specific courses in either: health information technology, network technology, or advanced manufacturing.
Academic Programs
The IT Core Cluster is designed to prepare you to start your career or pursue additional education in the pathways of network technology, health information technology, and advanced manufacturing. This cluster sets you on the path toward a Precision Machining CTS, Computer Network Technology AAS, Computer Information Technology AAS, Medical Registration Specialist CTS, or Medical Coding CAS.
Jobs
Example occupations include: Machinist, CNC Operator, Computer Support Specialist, Network Technician, and Medical Coder.
Healthcare
- The Healthcare Core Cluster is for you if you like working with people and are interested in careers in the healthcare industry.
- You will study foundational health care skills like First Aid, CPR, medical terminology, HIPAA laws and hospital information systems that will prepare you to begin a career or continue your education in a variety of healthcare fields.
Academic Programs
The Healthcare Core Cluster is designed to prepare you to build credit for a career or education in pathways
of within the Allied Health fields. This cluster sets you on the path toward concentrations
in Surgical Technology CTS, Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic CTS, Massage Therapy CTS, Physical Therapy Assistant AAS, Occupational Therapy Assistant AAS, or Pharmacy Technician CTS.
Jobs: Example occupations include: Surgical Technician/Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant/Aide, Emergency Medical Technician, Occupational Therapy Assistants/Aides, Massage Therapist, or Pharmacy Technician.
Skilled Crafts
- The Technical Trades Core Cluster is for you if you are interested in careers in the technical fields such as Welding, HVAC, and Electrical.
- You will study the information needed to enter and safely work in technical trades, specifically work-site safety, power tool use, rigging, and blue print reading. These topics are all covered in TECH 101, the introductory course that maps to the NCCER Core certification.
- You will also learn valuable study and career skills that will help you navigate the college experience and take advantage of the many resources available to you on campus.
Academic Programs
The Technical Trades Core Cluster is designed to prepare you to build your skills for a career or pursue additional education in the pathways of welding, HVAC, and electrical work. This cluster sets you on the path toward concentrations in Welding CTS, HVAC/R CTS, or Electrician CTS.
Jobs
Example occupations include Welder, Fabricator, HVAC Technician, or Electrician/Helper.
Culinary and Hospitality
- The Culinary Arts Career Cluster is for you if you are interested in careers in culinary fields such as Pastry Arts, Culinary Management, Line Cook and Chef Apprentice.
- You will receive instruction in basic food safety, cross-contamination and allergens, time and temperature, and cleaning and sanitation. These topics are all covered in CULA 103the introductory course that maps to the ServSafe Manager Certification.
- You will also learn valuable study and career skills that will help you navigate the college experience and take advantage of the many resources available to you on campus.
Academic Programs
The Culinary Arts Career Cluster is designed to prepare you to build your skills for a career or pursue additional education in the Culinary Field. This core leads to concentrations in Pastry Arts, Line Cook, and Culinary Management, as well as the Culinary Arts A.A.S
