Tips for Planning Your Future

First Semester

  • Get involved.  Join a student organization on campus.
  • Complete the personal assessments through Career Cruising
  • Keep good grades 
  • Develop a resume
  • Attend an on-campus Job Fair.

Second Semester

  • Stay involved.  Seek leadership roles in campus organizations.
  • Confirm your decision for your major.
  • Do a mock interview.  Make an appointment with an Engagement Counselor.
  • Refine your resume.  See the Engagement Counselors for tips
  • Meet with the Transfer Center if you intend to pursue a Bachelor's Degree
  • Keep up good grades.  Employers are looking for hard-working, dedicated employees

Third Semester

  • Stay involved.  Seek leadership roles in campus organizations
  • Update your resume.  Include campus/summer employment and involvement in student organizations.
  • Keep up the good work in the classroom 
  • Network with faculty, advisors, neighbors, friends, and family.  Many jobs are found through networking.
  • Attend an on-campus Job Fair

Fourth Semester

  • Stay involved.  Skills and networking learned while participating in student organizations are valuable in the job market
  • Do a mock interview.  Make an appointment with a Career Advisor
  • Network, network, network.  Many jobs are found through networking
  • Participate in an internship
  • Refine your resume
  • Create and refine cover letter.  Make an appointment with a Career Advisor
  • Apply for jobs.  Visit College Central Network for current employment listings
  • Attend an on-campus Job Fair
  • Keep up good grades
