 Delgado offers two pathways for students who want to improve their English language skills. This chart details the two programs: Adult Education ELL and the academic ESL program.

Adult Education ELL

Academic ESL Program

Who We Serve:

Students with developing English language literacy who may be pursuing their high school equivalency or in the workplace and want to improve their English.  


What We Offer: 

Free English language courses at the beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels that  encompass reading, writing, speaking, and listening to help you improve your English literacy and pursue a high school equivalency or workplace advancement. .


Courses meet Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. or 5:30 - 8:30 p.m., or Saturday from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.


Courses are generally eight weeks in length, and an orientation, testing, and scheduling period occurs before the course. 


Program Costs:

Adult Education is grant funded, so courses are free of charge for students. Students pay for parking passes if they park on Delgado’s campus.

Who We Serve:

International students and high school graduates who plan to enter a degree program at Delgado and/or want to develop their academic English language skills. 


What We Offer:

For credit basic, intermediate, and advanced level English language courses in Reading, Conversation, Grammar, and Composition, designed to prepare students for the academic demands of their programs of study.


Daytime courses meet Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Evening courses meet Monday through Thursday, 7-10 p.m.


Courses begin in August and January and are 16 weeks in length. Students must take a placement test before registering. 


Program Costs:

Tuition and fees are based on the number of credit hours for which a student is registered. Full time students pay approximately $2,000 per semester for 12 credit hours.
