Canvas Security Incident

We want to inform you of a recently reported nationwide security incident involving Canvas, the learning management system provided by Instructure. At this time, the investigation is ongoing. 

According to Instructure, there is no indication that passwords, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, or financial information were affected.

What You Should Do

We recommend the following precautions:

• Do not respond to or engage with suspicious messages or individuals for further information concerning this incident. 
• Please avoid accessing Canvas temporarily while we continue to monitor the situation.
• Consider resetting your LoLA password as a precaution.
• Be alert for phishing: Stay alert for any unusual emails or messages requesting personal information or referencing course activity.
• Avoid suspicious links: Do not click on unexpected links or attachments.
• Use caution with requests: Do not share personal information.
• Report concerns: Notify the OIT Help Desk of any unusual or suspicious activity.
• Check for updates: Continue to monitor official communications and the Instructure Status page for updates.

Our IT team is actively monitoring updates and evaluating any potential impact to our environment.
