Delgado Students Shine at the 19th Annual AWS Student Welding Competition

Delgado Community College proudly celebrated the achievements of its Welding students who showcased their skills at the 19th Annual American Welding Society (AWS) Student Welding Competition, held on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The event brought together talented student welders from across the region to demonstrate precision, technique, and craftsmanship in a competitive setting.
Representing Delgado’s School of Construction Arts & Technical Studies, students performed exceptionally well under the guidance of Welding Instructors Alcindo Frye and Endora Amber. Among the standout competitors, Tyson Lee earned 2nd Place in the Advanced category, while Zachary Dolton took home 1st Place in the Beginners category, showcasing the high level of skill and dedication cultivated in Delgado’s Welding program.

The competition was more than just a test of technical ability—it was an opportunity for students to gain real-world experience, build professional confidence, and network with industry leaders. Each participant demonstrated the values of discipline, teamwork, and excellence that define Delgado’s Welding program.
“All of our students did an incredible job,” said Dean Alvarado. “We’re proud of how they represented Delgado and the skills they’ve developed in our program. It’s always rewarding to see their hard work pay off in a competitive setting.”
Instructor Alcindo Frye added, “Competitions like these prepare our students for success in the workforce. Their performance today shows the strength of Delgado’s hands-on training and our commitment to helping students achieve their professional goals.”
The Delgado Community College Welding Program continues to prepare students for high-demand careers in the skilled trades through rigorous instruction and industry engagement.
