Delgado Students, Faculty, Graduates Win Big Easy Theatre Awards

Monday night, April 22, The Big Easy Theatre Awards were celebrated at a ceremony at the Orpheum Theatre. Delgado’s excellence in theatre arts education and performance was recognized with multiple awards.

Associate Professor Michael Santos received the Theatre Person of the Year Award and won for Best Supporting Actor in a Play for his role in The NOLA Project's production of "The Pillowman.”

Delgado Community College received ten nominations in all; including a Best University Production nomination for “The Boys Next Door.”

Charis Gullage won Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Dorothy in the Delgado Theatre and See ‘Em On Stage co-production of “The Wiz.”

Cast members of the “The Wiz” opened the Big Easy Theatre Awards show with the energetic number “Brand New Day.” "The Wiz" garnered eight award nominations, including Best Musical and a nomination for Delgado Theatre alumna Whitney Mixon for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.

Dr. William Wainwright, Dr. Mostofa Sarwar, Dr. Arnel Cosey and Delgado faculty members James Means, Michael Santos and Kris LaMorte were among those attending the awards.

The Delgado Theatre faculty, staff and students extend a heartfelt “thank you” to all for your support of the Delgado Community College Theatre Program.
