Building Futures Scholarship Helps Delgado Students Succeed
December 02, 2025
Delgado Nursing student Chassity Ross is a focused wife and mother of nine whose future is more secure and brighter thanks to support from the Delgado Community College Foundation’s Building Futures Scholarship fund.
When Ross graduates from Delgado with the December 2025 graduating class, she will transition to working full-time as a registered nurse in the surgery unit at Terrebonne General Hospital. Her success is due in part to receiving a Building Futures Scholarship, which ensured that she would complete the nursing program without delay after experiencing financial hardship.
“The Building Futures Scholarship worked miracles for me because, without it, I would not have been able to graduate,” said Ross.
The Building Futures Scholarship provides financial assistance to students enrolled in Delgado’s Allied Health, Construction Management, Culinary Arts, Motor Vehicle Technology, and Nursing programs who demonstrate a financial need. Since its inception five years ago, more than 100 students, like Ross, have benefited from a Building Futures Scholarship.
To ensure students in high demand have access to scholarship funds, The Foundation held the 6th Annual Building Futures Scholarship Luncheon at Galerie de Galatoire on Nov. 12, 2025. The event received tremendous support from business and industry partners and marked the end of a banner year for the Foundation.
Ross was among five existing Building Futures scholarship recipients who attended the event. Scholarship recipients Chasidy Woods, Ahnijah Henry, Cullen Wood, and Killian Schafer also attended and were recognized for their scholarships.
Michelle Y. Talbert, a business consultant with the Louisiana Small Business Development Center in New Orleans, served as the keynote speaker. Talbert discussed the small business landscape in the city and state, including a trend in start-up businesses among individuals very similar to Delgado Building Futures’ scholarship recipients and graduates.
Delgado appreciates the generosity of the Foundation and its business and industry partners for making investments that help make students workforce-ready.
The Building Futures Platinum sponsors were: Galatoire Foundation, Hancock Whitney, and All Star Electric, Inc.
