Delgado CWRC Achieves CRLA Certification, Recognizing Excellence in Coach Training Program
October 09, 2025
Delgado Community College is proud to announce that the Center for Writing, Reading, and Communications (CWRC) has earned both Level 1 and Level 2 certification from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) through their International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC).

This prestigious certification recognizes the CWRC's comprehensive 25-hour coach training program, which combines innovative theories of student support with hands-on experience. The program includes specialized training in andragogical and metacognitive foundations, practical coaching strategies, and methods for supporting students with various needs and experiences.
"This certification validates our commitment to providing the highest quality academic support to our students," said CWRC Director Carlee Travis. "Our coaches undergo rigorous training that goes well beyond traditional tutoring approaches, focusing on helping students develop as independent learners and critical thinkers."
The CWRC's professional staff of more than 20 coaches serves students across multiple locations—at Delgado's City Park Campus, West Bank Campus, and through remote sessions—ensuring accessible support for Delgado's student population. Each new coach completes intensive training combining 20 hours of in-person instruction with up to five hours of online modules, followed by mentored observation sessions with veteran coaches.
The certification application was prepared by Travis in collaboration with CWRC coaches Casey Dawson, Kaari Aubrey, and Serena Hill. Significant contributions to training materials and facilitation came from coaches Lauren Clark, Alex Tronson, and Hailey King. Their collaborative efforts created a comprehensive program that meets CRLA's rigorous standards for coach selection, training, service delivery, and evaluation.
CRLA has been the leading authority in learning assistance and academic support for more than 30 years, with nearly 1,300 members, and more than 2,000 certified training programs worldwide. Achieving dual-level certification places the CWRC among an elite group of academic support centers that have demonstrated exceptional standards in professional development.
The CWRC continues to expand its services and impact, helping Delgado students develop essential communication skills that support success across all academic disciplines and beyond graduation.
