Delgado Presents the Brides of India Musical Show, a Reflection on Indian History and Culture

The Brides of India musical show is scheduled for Saturday, February 4, 2023, 1 p.m. at the Delgado Community College City Park Campus, Timothy K. Baker Theatre, Building 1, First Floor, 615 City Park Avenue. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Attendees will enjoy Indian music and dance performances, cuisine, wedding demonstrations, presentations and more.

Choreography is by Ruby Paul of Ruby Creative Dance Productions. The show is directed by Sadhana Ray, Delgado Professor of Psychology.

The program will begin with remarks by Professor Erin Vonsteuben, Chair of the Delgado Multiculturalism and Diversity Committee; Dr. Tarun K. Mukherjee, Moffett Chair in Economics and Finance, University of New Orleans; and Professor Sadhana Ray, who will speak about the history of Indian traditions.

A series of original dances follows, presented by colorfully costumed performers representing brides and bridal parties from Tamil Nadu, South India; Kerala, South India; Bihar; Bengal; Uttarpradesh; Punjab; Kashmir; and Rajasthan. The dances will be performed to authentic music and will provide an amazing feast for the senses.

Representatives of the Asian Pacific American Society (APAS) and the India Association of New Orleans will speak, as will Professor Linda Kieffer of the Delgado Arts and Humanities Division.

The event will conclude with a reception and Indian cuisine tasting in the Baker Theatre lobby featuring delicacies from Punjabi Dhaba and Olive Tree Café.
