Recognition Event for NOLA High School Students Sailing Aboard Tall Ship

WHAT: The Delgado Community College Maritime and Industrial Training Center will host a recognition event for 10 New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) students who on April 19 will have completed a two-week Gulf Coast voyage, Galveston-Pensacola-New Orleans, as crew in training on the tall ship Picton Castle.

WHEN: Friday, April 20, 2018, 10:00-10:45 a.m.

WHERE: Dockside at the Picton Castle, Woldenberg Park, New Orleans (see attached).  

WHY: As part of a commitment to industry-aligned programs and partnerships supporting the regional workforce, Delgado is partnering with Tall Ships America to provide safety and deckhand training for students planning maritime careers at its state-of-the-art Maritime and Industrial Training Center in New Orleans East. The 10 NOMMA students are the first to benefit from the new Delgado-Tall Ships America partnership.

WHO: Sen. Troy A. Carter Sr. will recognize the students from NOMMA and comment on the maritime industry, technical education, and the New Orleans Tricentennial.
